This map shows the trip my SS made from the factory to my dealership. Back when I ordered my car, it was possible for a dealer to call Chevrolet and get information about special orders. One interesting bit of information is the Target Production Week (TPW). This is the week they project they will build the vehicle.
After it's built, they could find out the equipment number of the rail car it was loaded on. And back then you could query the Canadian Pacific Railway and Union Pacific Railway websites and find out where the rail car was (but these days that information is restricted). Once I got the equipment number my baby was on, I whipped up a cron job to query the two websites every 15 minutes (and email my pager if the location changed). I later used that information to create an early version of this page.
